Practical Networking: Lawyer describes how to help friends get jobs

BLOOMINGTON, Ind., Nov. 21, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- When Ed Flippen's wife was pregnant with their first child, the last thing he was expecting was to be fired from his job as a Wall Street stockbroker.

But when this father-to-be suddenly found himself unemployed, the stress he experienced taught him the importance of a good job to a person's mental, emotional and physical well-being. Fortunately, with the help of his father-in-law, Flippen soon found another job to support his family. Inspired by his father-in-law's timely assistance, Flippen has since then helped over 100 people find good jobs.

In addition to providing individual help, Flippen now offers his job-hunting expertise to the masses in his newly released book Practical Networking: How to Give and Get Help with Jobs (available from 1stBooks).

"This book is about my experiences in getting jobs and helping others get jobs," Flippen writes. "It's about our most valuable resource, our friends, and how they can help with jobs and job promotions."

Although Flippen has never been formally trained in human resources or personnel management, his qualifications are rooted in the years he has dedicated to looking for jobs and helping others find jobs.

"I have been unemployed and had to survive on unemployment checks," Flippen writes. "I know how it feels to earn $1.25 an hour ($.10 an hour above the minimum wage in 1962), but I also know how it feels to earn a million dollars in a year."

Flippen currently practices law in Richmond, Virginia. He has also taught both graduate and undergraduate courses at 10 colleges and universities. His web page is www.eflippen.com.
