Is Pet Ownership Destroying the Lives of Americans?

New Book Exposes America's Dog Worship and its Serious Implications

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 19, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- "I have heard and read over and over again that dogs add years to a person's life. It is rubbish. In fact, dogs are not beneficial to a person's life," says Carole Wade, author of the controversial essay "Is Pet Ownership Destroying the Lives of Americans?" Now in the new book of the same title, she exposes the truth behind Americans' obsession with dogs and its ugly implications to their health and lifestyle. While she is at it, she also casts a long and hard look at the overpowering fifty-billion-dollars-a-year pet industry that has cashed in on the lonely dog owner's pocketbook.

Enlightening and provocative, Is Pet Ownership Destroying the Lives of Americans? is a work of advocacy focusing on dog owners and pet-parenting gone overboard. Her subject is timely and provocative. Her quotes are from publications which reflect the urgency of today's growing number of pet-parents who eat, sleep, and bathe with their dogs. She reveals that dog owners have crossed health boundaries through their obsession with their animals. She explains that dogs pose a serious threat not only to our health but to our children's health. They also harm our lifestyle as rational human beings.
