Karlshamns and Danisco in strategic cooperation

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Jan. 25, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Karlshamns and Danisco are now entering into cooperation, to the effect that Karlshamns' business sector Lipids for Care takes over responsibility for sales and marketing of Danisco's emulsifiers to the cosmetic industry from 1 February 2005. As a consequence of this cooperation, Danisco's products will be marketed under Karlshamns' brand Akoline, all over the world. The cooperation will generate positive effects on earnings in 2005 already.

"This cooperation is entirely in line with our strategy, and will further consolidate our position as the number one supplier of vegetable speciality fats to the global cosmetic industry," says Karina Petterson, responsible for business sector Lipids for Care.

The Akoline emulsifiers are all of food-grade quality, and based only on natural raw materials. This offers new formulation opportunities for products with high functionality and first-rate bioactive properties. As an ingredient, the emulsifier is essential to achieve stability and texture in lotions and other skin-care products.

In the Karlshamns Group, Lipids for Care is part of Business Area Oils & Fats and responsible for the development and marketing of the Group's high value-added speciality fats to the cosmetic industry.

In 2003, Karlshamns' total sales amounted to SEK 3,317 million. The Group has a staff of some 750 employees, of whom around 600 in Karlshamn. Karlshamns is Scandinavia's leading producer of vegetable oils and fats, the majority of its customers found in the food industry. Other important business areas are technical products, feed raw materials and customised raw materials for the chemical and technical industries. The Group's operations have a strong international focus, with subsidiaries in the Netherlands, the UK, the Czech Republic, Poland and Malaysia.
