Vault Releases New Employee Surveys on Hewlett-Packard

NEW YORK, Jan. 26, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- New York research firm Vault (Website at Vault.com) has just published new employee surveys on tech giant Hewlett-Packard (NYSE:HPQ) providing "insider" information on corporate culture, compensation and hiring practices at the company.

Vault's employee surveys are designed to give investors and jobseekers insight into Hewlett-Packard -- and for job seekers, the edge in this tough recruiting climate.

Among the aspects highlighted is the culture clash after the acquisition of Compaq.

Says one credit analyst, "Working at HP is a mixed experience between a great company and clashing culture, particularly after the acquisition of Compaq Computer (don't believe anyone who told you it was a merger of equals). If you're working within a pre-merger HP environment, you can expect the same good old HP. Everyone is professional and friendly. If you're working in the Compaq environment, such as an old Compaq site, you can expect some bitterness and an oppressive culture."

As for compensation, a consumer products project manager writes that: "In 1997 the package was generous -- profit sharing, stock, salary mid-$70s. Good benefits, 2 weeks vacation, $3K signing bonus, solid relocation package including shipment of car, sporting equipment. In 2004, salary has been flat or at parity with cost of living for 4 years. Profit sharing has yet to break $1,000. Stock options are unheard of."
