About Leo Durocher

He was what you call today: a player. He played for 20 years and left his mark at every stop. For 34 years, he managed and led some of the greatest baseball players that ever played the game. Every player that played for him knew that winning was the only result that would give him a good night's sleep. Lose and there was hell to pay. Not for his own players, but for the next day's opponent. He coined a phrase that has been repeated in every stadium, bar, nightclub, coal mine, newscast, bus station, office and even in the bedroom, "Nice Guys Finish Last." He was baseball's ultimate character. He was known as "The Lip"... Leo "The Lip" Durocher.
