Midwest Staffing, located in Oklahoma City, Okla., provides a variety of medical staffing services, including travel nurses, pharmacists, technicians and other health care professionals. With $2.8 million in annual sales, this acquisition gives Resolve an immediate presence in the burgeoning medical staffing market. Health care opportunities abound across the United States, driven by constantly improving technology and the aging of the population. As America continues to age, the current shortage of health care professionals will continue to grow and health care needs of this older population will support demand for medical staffing services. Medical staffing continues to be the growth niche in the staffing industry.
Due to a nationwide shortage of nurses and increasing turnover rates, hospitals are being forced to rely on staffing agencies to fill vacancies. With double-digit growth projected into the foreseeable future, nurse staffing is one of the largest sectors of the temporary medical staffing industry. According to projections from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, published in the February 2004 Monthly Labor Review, more than one million new and replacement nurses will be needed by 2012. For the first time, the U.S. Department of Labor has identified registered nursing as the top occupation in terms of job growth through the year 2012.
