Virco Donation Helps Teachers at Florida Elementary School

TORRANCE, Calif., Dec. 1, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Thanks to a generous $10,000 furniture donation by Virco Mfg. Corporation (AMEX:VIR), 60 educators at a Florida elementary school now have their first new teachers' desks since the 1980s. The donation is just one aspect of a dynamic partnership between Virco(r) -- America's largest manufacturer and supplier of classroom furniture -- and the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP).

Virco's relationship with NAESP got started in 2004, when the company committed $1.5 million to the National Principals Resource Center's Speakers Bureau, enabling NAESP state affiliates to pay for keynote speakers at their annual meetings. Subsequently, Virco agreed to sponsor a furniture giveaway at the NAESP national convention. This year, the giveaway's $10,000 furniture donation goes to San Carlos Park Elementary School in Ft. Myers, Florida.

"When I heard our school's name called at the giveaway drawing, I jumped out of my seat," said Dana Folsom, Principal of San Carlos Park Elementary. "This turned into a great opportunity for us to get new desks for all our teachers."

By adding the $10,000 donation to funds already earmarked for furniture acquisitions, Folsom was able to purchase new Virco pedestal desks for the school's 60 teachers. With a sturdy steel-frame construction and lockable, spacious box and file drawers, these desks provide a significant upgrade from the older furniture that the teachers had been using.

"The new desks are definitely a welcome addition to our school," confirmed Folsom, who added that San Carlos Park will be purchasing a variety of items from Virco's ergonomically supportive ZUMA(r) furniture line as part of a 20-classroom campus expansion.

Established in 1921, the National Association of Elementary School Principals serves 29,500 K-8 principals in the United States, Canada, and overseas. See www.naesp.org for details.

After opening for business in 1950 with just one customer, Virco has grown to become the country's leading furniture manufacturer for the K-12 market. Virco products include the best-selling ZUMA collection, honored with a prestigious Best of NeoCon(r) 2004 Editors' Choice Award; and stylish, supportive Ph.D.(r) Series task chairs. In addition, Virco's industry-leading resource recovery and recycling achievements have been repeatedly recognized by local, state and national organizations. The company's most important honor was announced in 2003, when the United States Environmental Protection Agency designated Virco as a charter member of its WasteWise Hall of Fame.
