Buffalo Enhances Digital Interoperability with Its LinkStation Home Server

The First of Its Consumer-Friendly Network Devices Designed to DLNA Guidelines, The LinkStation Home Server Provides the Ultimate In Home Network Storage with Affordability, Compatibility and Ease-of-Use

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 5, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- -- CES Booth No. RV2 -- Buffalo Technology, a global leader in the design, development and manufacturing of wired and wireless networking, storage, multimedia and memory solutions today announced the first member of its family of products designed to DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) Guidelines -- the LinkStation Home Server. Available in capacities of 300GB (HS-D300GL) and 400GB (HS-D400GL), the LinkStation Home Server is targeted for the mass consumer market and allows users to easily store and share digital content to any media device in the home.

The LinkStation Home Server is one of the first of its kind designed to DLNA guidelines. DLNA is an interoperability standard for the digital home, enabling PC and consumer electronics products to seamlessly work together. Users can access videos, photos or music stored on the Home Server and play it back on any device designed to DLNA guidelines in the home.

"Our customers have asked for a solution that combines performance with affordability and compatibility with ease-of-use, and with the LinkStation Home Server, we are addressing that need," stated Morikazu Sano, vice president of global marketing at Buffalo Technology. "With its ability to store and distribute multi-media content, the LinkStation Home Server is set to be the centerpiece of the digital home. Plus, the fact that it's compatible with any other device that is designed to DLNA guidelines such as televisions, DVD players, network media players, stereos, etc. makes it the ideal solution for anyone seeking the ultimate home entertainment experience."

The LinkStation Home Server features award-winning NAS Media Server software by Mediabolic. It also includes a 10/100/1000 Base-T Gigabit Ethernet port and Jumbo Frame technology for higher transfer speeds than standard Gigabit networks. The product is Windows compatible and includes a built-in USB print server so users can share a network printer. The product also features a file server so users can share files across their network and an FTP server function, which allows users to access and transfer data from any machine with Internet connectivity.

"Buffalo is known industry-wide for its expertise in providing customer-friendly networking, storage and multi-media devices. The LinkStation Home Server is an integration of all of this know-how," said Daniel Putterman, president and CEO of Mediabolic. "Using our Source Code SDK, Buffalo has been able to quickly develop and ship high-performance consumer products that are simple-to-use and priced right. We're excited to be working with Buffalo as they deliver high-quality products like the LinkStation Home Server and LinkTheater Mini."

The LinkStation Home Server also gives users the ability to access the same digital file simultaneously and play it in different locations throughout the home. Users can protect precious data by restricting access with group and user level security. The Home Server features Memeo(tm) AutoBackup(tm) software as well as Buffalo's own backup utility. The LinkStation also features two USB 2.0 ports, and users can schedule and customize additional backup and data protection via USB to external storage.

Backed by a limited one-year warranty and toll-free 24/7 technical support, the LinkStation Home Server 300GB (HS-D300GL) and 400GB (HS-D400GL) will be available at the end of January at estimated street prices of $399 and $549 respectively through retail outlets, resellers and Buffalo's web site.
