Sustainable ZUMAfrd Furniture by Virco Wins ADEX Platinum Award

TORRANCE, Calif., March 7, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Virco's (AMEX:VIR) great-looking, comfortably contoured ZUMAfrd(TM) furniture collection has just won a prestigious ADEX(R) Platinum Award for its unique synthesis of style, ergonomic support and sustainability. Designed for intermediate schools, high schools and college and university environments, the ZUMAfrd line includes a 4-leg chair with a integral bookrack, a reverse cantilever chair, and a 4-leg chair-desk combo unit.

ZUMAfrd features seats, backrests and worksurfaces made from Fortified Recycled Wood(TM), enabling models in this product series to contain 40-50% renewable materials (wood and agricultural fibers) and significant post-consumer/post-industrial recycled-content material. In addition, this highly sustainable furniture line is 98% recyclable through Virco's new Take-Back Program, which enables qualifying schools to recycle components from furniture they've withdrawn from service. The Take-Back Program also works to "close the loop" by recycling selected materials from these components into the Fortified Recycled Wood that's used in ZUMAfrd.

ZUMAfrd products, along with all models in Virco's best-selling ZUMA(R) collection, are the only classroom furniture lines certified according to the GREENGUARD(R) Environmental Institute's stringent indoor air quality standard for children and schools.

With proper care and use, the service life of ZUMAfrd furniture exceeds standard depreciation schedules by several orders of magnitude.

Designed by Peter Glass of Peter Glass Design and Bob Mills of Hedgehog Design, ZUMAfrd features important ergonomic details found in Virco's original ZUMA line, including comfortably sculpted backrests, supportive seats with gently sloping fronts, and spacious bowfront worksurfaces. Glass and Mills worked with Virco's engineering and manufacturing teams to combine proprietary chemistry with innovative mold design and process control, enabling ZUMAfrd's ergonomically contoured components to transcend the basic linear shapes of traditional compression-molded classroom furniture.

Aesthetically speaking, ZUMAfrd's classic combination of clean lines and balanced contours will enhance any classroom setting, as will a deliciously intriguing 17-color palette including chocolate, papaya, apple, fuchsia, pink, coral and natural.
