COLLECTORS IN ST. PETERSBURG -- HERMITAGE MUSEUM, AMSTERDAM

Until 1917, St. Petersburg was one of Europe's greatest cosmopolitan cities where many of its rich inhabitants put together large collections of art. The Hermitage Amsterdam will introduce the collections of four of these art collectors, with masterpieces by Murillo, Boucher, Rousseau and others.

Vincent Van Gogh is seen as the most important forerunner of Expressionism. His reliance on emotion to express color and line can be found in almost all Expressionist works. The Van Gogh Museum presents this exhibition in collaboration with the Neue Galerie in New York, featuring 20 paintings by Van Gogh and 40 paintings by Expressionist artists.

GRAND OPENING OF STATE-OF-THE ART PUBLIC LIBRARY, AMSTERDAM

Grand opening of Amsterdam's new Public Library, designed by architect Jo Coenen. Located on the Oosterdokseiland, next to Amsterdam's central train station, this 300,000 square feet library will be one of Europe's largest libraries, welcoming over 2 mln visitors each year. This modern designed library will accommodate an auditorium for lectures, musical and theater performances.
