LOS ANGELES, June 25, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Nadel Architects is a 2007 recipient of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) NEXT LA Honor Award for Outstanding Architecture. The Hunin Urban Development project is the winner of this prestigious award from the AIA Los Angeles Chapter.
The Hunin Urban Development project was an international design competition entry for a luxury residential development in the King's Forest region of Korea, near Seoul. "Our team's forward-thinking design for this urban village weaves nature back into a deforested site. The 288 multifamily luxury condominium and loft buildings and 38 single-family homes are designed in a series of undulating ribbon-like forms woven into the surrounding landscape," said Herb Nadel, Chairman and CEO of Nadel Architects, Inc.
The AIA Los Angeles Chapter's annual Design Awards Program recognizes excellence in architectural design by Los Angeles architects. The program's purpose is to increase awareness of outstanding architecture and to honor the architects, clients, and consultants who work together to improve the built environment.

The project's multifamily buildings are raised onto columns, establishing a continuous panorama of public green space. Sustainable elements are incorporated into the buildings with unit layouts that encourage natural cross ventilation and elevated courtyards, and sustainable wood slat screen cladding to provide both solar protection and privacy. The multifamily buildings incorporate six unit types, while the single family housing is comprised of four basic footprints. Common areas are primarily below grade and integrated into the landscape.
