UAT Digital Video Students Advance in 48 Hour Film Challenge

TEMPE, AZ--(Marketwire - August 10, 2007) - Two groups comprised of University of Advancing Technology (UAT) students and alumni placed among the top five challengers in the 48 Hour Film Challenge, a Phoenix Film Foundation-sponsored event that took place July 13-15.

Thirty-three teams participated in the fourth annual contest, which tasks filmmakers with writing, filming and editing a three-minute movie in one of three genres: comedy, drama and horror.

"Like You Said," directed and produced by UAT alum Timothy D. Allen, captured the Best Drama award and second place overall. The other entry from UAT students and alumni was "The Addict," which won in the Best Comedy category, placing fifth overall.

The production team behind "Like You Said" was comprised of ten UAT alumni. The plot centered on an ailing father visited by his sons.

Tracy Shrier, producer of "Like You Said," was proud of the film's success. "It felt incredibly awesome to win best drama, because that is what we set out to do."

The production crew for "The Addict," which was produced and directed by John Ray, was comprised of eleven UAT students. The comedy told the story of a lactose intolerant man's obsession with cheese.

According to Ray, the competition was anything but fierce: "Some of them [the films] were kind of funny, but at the end, they didn't have the kick that ours did."

Both films will be featured at the 2008 Phoenix Film Festival when they advance to the final round of the Four Seasons Short Film Challenge.
