Glatfelter Earns Triple Chain-of-Custody Certifications

Announces Its First FSC Certified Book Publishing Grade

YORK, PA--(Marketwire - January 30, 2008) - Glatfelter (NYSE: GLT), a global manufacturer of specialty papers and engineered products and a leader in responsible forestry management, has achieved chain-of-custody certification to the Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC), Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), and Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) standards at its North American production facilities in Spring Grove, PA and Chillicothe, OH. The new triple certification provides assurance that Glatfelter has in fact implemented responsible forest management to its longstanding policies, and that chain-of-custody procedures exist to pass certified fiber from the forest, through the manufacturing processes and onto customers and end-users.

"Achieving forestry certification from multiple systems demonstrates Glatfelter's continued commitment to environmental results as a socially responsible manufacturer," said George Glatfelter. "Triple certification enables Glatfelter to further strengthen its sustainable business platform with official recognition of our green practices, and provides our customers with a range of options to meet their own sustainability objectives."

Natures Book -- A leading environmental choice

Already a leading environmental choice for Book Publishers, Natures Book will be Glatfelter's first FSC-certified product. The newly certified Natures Book grade, available in early February 2008, has incorporated 30% post consumer waste fiber since its introduction in early 2007. "Our customers can rest assured that our integrity as a supplier of recycled PCW containing products is now backed by our verifiable third-party chain-of-custody certifications in addition to our steadfast commitment to environmental excellence," said George Glatfelter.

Additional certified products will be available across Glatfelter's other North American specialty products starting in March.

Glatfelter's environmental initiatives achieved national recognition when the facility in Spring Grove, PA, became the first pulp and paper mill in the United States to receive ISO 14001 certification for its environmental management system. Co-generation of steam and electricity using renewable biomass fuels, beneficial use of secondary products and utilizing products and processes that reduce or eliminate the use or generation of hazardous substances are a few examples that demonstrate Glatfelter's good stewardship.
