Buffalo FlexNet Gives Users the Best of Both Worlds

This Unique Hybrid Storage Solution Combines the Ease of USB With the Power of Network Attached Storage

AUSTIN, Texas, Sept. 22, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Buffalo Technology, a global leader in the design, development and manufacturing of wired and wireless networking, storage and memory solutions, announced today the introduction of the DriveStation FlexNet(tm), a revolutionary marriage of an external USB drive and a network attached storage solution. For the first time, users can simply and quickly toggle between the high speed capabilities of a USB 2.0 interface and the convenience of centralized storage with the push of a button. Equipped with Memeo AutoBackup, the DriveStation FlexNet can easily and automatically back up personal files, videos, photos, music and other digital assets. Whether you are backing up just one PC or multiple networked computers, the DriveStation FlexNet offers the ultimate in versatility.

Featuring a stylish, sleek form factor introduced earlier this month, the DriveStation FlexNet from Buffalo features a 10/100 Ethernet interface for simple network sharing and backup as well as a USB 2.0 high speed connection that, when combined with Buffalo's own TurboUSB technology, offers up to 20% faster transfer rates over other standard USB drives.

"Buffalo is committed to developing fully-integrated products with unique and innovative capabilities that can meet the ever changing storage needs in today's fast paced technology market," said Ken Higgins, vice president of sales at Buffalo Technology. "The DriveStation FlexNet delivers on this promise, offering consumers for the first time the flexibility of a simple and easy-to use network storage solution and the ease and speed of a direct attached USB interface."

Setting up the DriveStation FlexNet on a home or SOHO (Small Office/Home Office) network is simple. The FlexNet plugs into any network router and installs quickly, even when used with the network interface. Once the drive is on the network, users simply run the install wizard off of the quick start CD on each networked PC to automatically receive a desktop icon that gives them easy access to a shared public folder. This shared public folder can also be password protected to limit accessibility when on the network. With the a simple push of a button, the DriveStation FlexNet automatically disconnects from the network and switches into USB mode, allowing users to take advantage of the high speed USB 2.0 interface. To switch back, simply press the button again.
