PTA Demands Recount of Votes
Parents Get Creative With Healthy Lifestyles Month, November
| Source: National PTA
CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwire - November 11, 2008) - Very much like the United States presidential
election, there was a record voter turn out in the Carrots versus Cherries
election at the Memorial PTA Harvest Fair in McMinnville, Ore. The Fruit
Party candidate won by such an unbelievably wide margin, that the PTA
suspected ballot tampering and demanded a recount to no avail.
Memorial PTA is just one of thousands of PTA schools across the country
conducting activities to promote PTA Healthy Lifestyles
Month. The school is also one of only 22 local PTA schools that received a
grant of up to $1,000 in honor of the special month.
PTAs support PTA
Healthy Lifestyles Month through activities they have planned to:
promote health and wellness and parent involvement in their schools;
emphasize the link between involvement and student achievement; and further
PTA's mission.
"We're proud to see parents at the grassroots that are helping their school
and other parents remember that a healthy child is more likely to achieve.
That's why PTA Healthy
Lifestyles Month is so important, because it calls much needed
attention to child health and wellness," said Jan Harp Domene, National PTA
president.
Knowing that a healthy child can achieve and learn more, PTAs are
encouraging families to increase their physical activity and learn to eat
healthier by hosting walkathons, and health fairs, as well as
bike-to-school programs and 'family fit nights,' among other events. To
learn what schools are doing in your area, contact national PTA's media
relations office.
PTA Healthy Lifestyles
Month is supported by education and community leaders, including Action
for Healthy Kids; National School Boards Association; National Association
of School Nurses; National Association of Health Education Centers; and
Family Voices.
