"Service dispatching had been a manual process before we implemented this new technology, so we've seen great efficiencies in service routing, scheduling, and dispatching which has resulted in improved customer service," said Doug Wood, RIde Program Manager.

"You'll get to see how we can now schedule the best passenger grouping and select the most efficient route automatically, send an electronic manifest to the drivers via their on-board computers, while our GPS system downloads route instructions direct to the driver," explained Wood.

The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) manages the State's broker system for its coordinated human services transportation program, called the RIde Program. RIde provides specialized transportation for seniors, individuals with disabilities, and low-income citizens, as well as ADA and Medicaid transportation services. RIPTA also operates a general public community circulator service called Flex Service. Flex Service is a general public point deviation with reservations service operating in 7 zones serving portions of 12 different communities with 22 runs. RIPTA currently utilizes 121 vehicles running about 3,000 trips per day.
