Emulex Brings Converged Network Support to Oracle(r) Unbreakable Linux and Oracle VM Customers

Emulex LightPulse Converged Network Adapter Drivers Certified and Available In-Box for Oracle

COSTA MESA, Calif., June 3, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX) today announced that it is working closely with Oracle to provide converged network support and investment protection for end users who deploy Emulex LightPulse(r) 10Gb/s Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) Converged Network Adapters (CNAs) in Oracle(r) Enterprise Linux and Oracle VM environments. Emulex's common LightPulse drivers supporting CNAs and Host Bus Adapters (HBAs) have been certified with Oracle Enterprise Linux 4.8.

Traditionally, data centers have used specialized networks to meet individual I/O connectivity requirements -- one for networking, storage and clustering. With increasing deployments of blades and server virtualization, data centers are inherently facing huge network sprawl, primarily driven by deployments of multiple 1Gb/s Ethernet links and the need for external storage connectivity. The answer is network convergence, or the ability to unify multiple traffic types -- networking, storage and clustering -- over a single network.

"Emulex is working closely with Oracle to deliver industry-first capabilities for enterprise-class data centers, such as converged networking, I/O virtualization and data integrity support," said Steve Daheb, chief marketing officer and senior vice president of business development, Emulex. "Leveraging Emulex FCoE CNAs, customers can drastically reduce their infrastructure, management, power and cooling costs, improve their business agility and protect their existing data center infrastructure investments."

Emulex LightPulse CNAs leverage eight generations of advanced, field-proven Fibre Channel technology to provide host Local Area Network (LAN) and Fibre Channel Storage Area Network (SAN) connectivity over 10Gb/s Ethernet using FCoE and Enhanced Ethernet functionality, making them ideal for server I/O consolidation. Emulex LightPulse CNAs provide investment protection by sharing common LightPulse Fibre Channel drivers and leveraging existing storage management tools and processes and feature streamlined installation and management for both Fibre Channel and FCoE attached devices.

"Oracle and Emulex continue to collaborate closely on developing and supporting leading-edge data center solutions. This announcement marks the culmination of our efforts to deliver comprehensive, enterprise-class network convergence support for our customers," said Jeff Doolan, Director, Linux and Virtualization Channels, Oracle. "By choosing Emulex LightPulse CNAs for connectivity in Oracle environments, customers benefit from efficient, robust and high-performance connectivity, while protecting their IT investment in existing LAN and SAN infrastructure."

Now Emulex's entire family of LightPulse Fibre Channel HBAs and FCoE CNAs is supported for use with Oracle Enterprise Linux. As a member of the Oracle PartnerNetwork and one of the first vendors to support the Oracle Unbreakable Linux Program, Emulex is a leading I/O connectivity provider for Oracle environments. In addition, the companies are working to deliver an enhanced end-to-end data integrity protection solution as part of the Data Integrity Initiative. Emulex and Oracle continue to offer enterprise-class products that provide mission-critical interoperability, comprehensive support and continued innovation.
