Cinema Arts Festival Houston Debuts November 2009

Houston Cinema Arts Society Presents the Only U.S. Festival Centering on Films by and About Artists


HOUSTON, TX--(Marketwire - July 14, 2009) -


What:

The Houston Cinema Arts Society (HCAS) presents its first full-fledged Cinema Arts Festival Houston. The non-profit organization will collaborate with Houston museums, art centers, theaters and cultural organizations to present a truly unique film festival that showcases new films by and about artists working in the visual, performing and literary arts.

The Festival will surround its theatrical screenings with live music and film performances, outdoor projections, media installations and more. Among the highlights of the program will be the premiere of Laura Harrison's documentary "Ant Farm 1969 - 1971: Early Underground Adventures with Space, Land and Time," accompanied by artworks inspired by Ant Farm and created by University of Houston architecture and media art students.

In addition, Festival organizers are planning a special silent film screening accompanied by music written and performed by Houston school children.

The full Festival program will be announced in September 2009.

Why:

The Festival celebrates the vitality and diversity of Houston and enriches the city's film and arts environment. Through its focus on multimedia artworks and films by and about artists, the Festival aims to broaden the public's understanding and appreciation of contemporary cinema and its indelible ties to the creative arts.

Multiple locations throughout Houston, including: Angelika Film Center; Miller Outdoor Theatre; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; Rice Media Center; University of Houston; Warehouse Live; and more.

Houston Cinema Arts Society (HCAS) is a non-profit organization created in 2008 under the direction of a dedicated task force with the support of Houston Mayor Bill White and the leadership of Franci Crane to organize and host Cinema Arts Festival Houston, a ground-breaking and innovative film and multimedia arts festival featuring art by and about artists and celebrating the vitality and diversity of the arts in Houston and enriching the city's film and arts community. HCAS is funded in part by grants from the Crane Foundation, City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance and the City of Houston Convention and Entertainment Facilities Department. Cinema Arts Festival Houston will debut in Houston November 11 - 15, 2009.
