MuleSoft Announces General Availability of Tcat Server, Enterprise Tomcat Made Simple
New Capabilities for Cloud Deployment and Developer Productivity
| Source: MuleSoft
SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - October 8, 2009) - MuleSoft, the Web middleware company,
announces the general availability (GA) release of MuleSoft Tcat Server 6 R1, its enterprise-class web application server
based on Apache Tomcat.
Tcat Server is a fully supported version of Tomcat, based 100% on the
Apache Tomcat binary, with zero changes to the core code. Tcat Server gives
existing Tomcat users critical enterprise-class functionality, including
server group management, application provisioning, and Tomcat-specific performance diagnostics, and allows IT
teams to migrate from heavyweight legacy platforms -- such as Oracle
WebLogic or IBM WebSphere -- to the lightweight open source option, Tomcat.
New features available with the Tcat Server 6 R1 GA release include:
-- Support for Tomcat 5.5 -- while Tcat Server ships with Apache Tomcat 6.0 for download, administrators can also discover and
manage existing instances of Apache Tomcat, versions 5.5 and above
-- Application provisioning roll-back feature -- easily roll back deployed
application packages to a previous version, for release management and
failure recovery
-- Integration with Apache Maven -- push web applications developed with
the popular Apache Maven build tool directly into the Tcat Server
repository for provisioning to server groups
Since its initial beta release a few short weeks ago, Tcat Server has
already attracted a number of subscription customers, including leading
consumer financial company Volvo Finance.
Sateesh Narahari, MuleSoft director of product management, said: "We are
excited about the general availability of Tcat Server. The product's early
customer traction, including our recent win with Volvo Finance,
demonstrates the significant demand for a lightweight option for running
production applications."
Rich Pulver, CTO of Reverus, added: "We are excited about Tcat Server, as
it combines the lightweight simplicity of Tomcat with the enterprise
support and features that we need. With Tcat Server, enterprises can deploy
and manage production applications at a fraction of the total cost of
traditional J2EE application servers."
New cloud deployment capabilities -- Amazon EC2 plug-in
Tcat Server now also includes powerful cloud deployment capabilities,
enabled by a plug-in for Amazon EC2. IT administrators can now start new
instances of Tcat Server on the EC2 cloud with one click. Administrators
can then manage their server instances both in the cloud as well as behind
the firewall, all from the Tcat Server console.
Availability and pricing
Tcat Server is immediately available, and is free to use in development and
pre-production environments. Production subscriptions and support for
Apache Tomcat starts at $595 per CPU per year. For more information or to
