Media Alert: Legendary Ruby Dee Recites the Works of Langston Hughes With Renowned Musicians Backing Her Up

Who:   Ruby Dee, one of the most influential American actresses and activists alive, with back-up from legendary guitarist Melvin Sparks and pianist Danny Mixon.
What:   Ruby Dee to recite the works of Langston Hughes with the intention of paying forward the words of the legendary poet with back-up from two celebrated Jazz and Blues musicians.
    Following her poetry, the Grammy Award Winning / Academy Award Nominated / National Medal of Arts and Kennedy Center Honors recipient NEEDS to hear from some YOUNG students in the audience. Ruby Dee has encouraged Claremont Prep students in the audience to recite their personal works off-the-cuff. Of particular interest, students with a fire in their bellies

     • 12:40pm - 1:00pm: Poetry Luncheon with Select Students
Why:   This is the last day of National Poetry Month and having a legend, the caliber of Ruby Dee, reading the works of the influential poet, Langston Hughes, is an historical event and worth covering to wrap up this important month at a time when many American icons are being forgotten
