GetWellNetwork Honors Achievements in Interactive Patient Care at Annual User Conference

MUSC Health Wins Overall Achievement Award in Quality and Service


BETHESDA, MD--(Marketwire - May 7, 2010) -  GetWellNetwork, Inc. today announced the winners of the second annual Interactive Patient Care Awards. Individuals and hospitals were honored at the third annual GetConnected User Conference for achievements in interactive patient care (IPC) initiatives that resulted in better patient outcomes and performance improvements.

Overall Achievement award was bestowed to Medical University of South Carolina Health (MUSC) for making outstanding achievements in both quality and service to patients. Using patient pathways, it advanced hospital-wide improvements in CARE Measure performance indicators in pneumonia vaccination by 28.6% and smoking cessation by 7.9%. 

Pediatric Innovation award was won by Golisano Children's Hospital for its use of GetWellNetwork's patent-pending pathways technology to deliver a comprehensive Asthma Care Plan to reduce risk of readmission.

Nursing Efficiency award went to Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, VA for its effective use of IPC to automate and improve response and care of patients on pain medication. Winchester achieved a remarkable savings of 9 minutes per patient using GetWellNetwork to assess pain, saving more than 4,700 nursing hours in just 2 months. It also made 13% improvement in HCAHP scores for Pain Control.

Quality and Safety award was presented to Valley Medical Center (VMC) in Renton, WA for outstanding accomplishments in advancing patient safety. VMC recorded a 98% safety education completion rate since implementing GetWellNetwork for patient safety education.

Financial Operations award was won by MUSC Health for generating new incremental revenue by integrating retail pharmacy with the GetWellNetwork solution to provide patients with the ability to fill their prescription from the bedside.

Service and Satisfaction award was presented to the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children for outstanding improvements in both service and patient satisfaction through the use of GetWellNetwork IPC. The hospital made notable improvements in patient satisfaction scores: 18% in "how things work in the room" and 5% in "response to concerns and complaints."

Individual achievements were also honored to highlight the enormous impact individuals have in affecting organizational change. This year, GetWellNetwork honored the following:

IPC Executive Sponsor: Barbara Hertzler, COO of St. Joseph Mercy Oakland, was honored for her visionary approach to advancing patient-centered care through the use of GetWellNetwork IPC solution. Her strong leadership has improved both clinical care processes and patient education, particularly in stroke care to foster better long-term success in improving outcomes. 

IPC Champion: Katherine Pereira-Ogan of Christiana Care Health System is a visionary leader that has changed the dynamics between patients and caregivers through the use of technology. She was honored this year for her ability to advance not only her hospital, but the industry's understanding of IPC and the value in engaging patients through this technology. 

IPC Pediatric Champion: Roumiana Katzarkov of Miami Children's Hospital has expanded the impact of GetWellNetwork beyond service and satisfaction initiatives, focusing on important safety and quality priorities, such as discharge planning and fall safety.

IPC Nursing Engagement: Sharon Urban of Christiana Care Health System was honored for her diligence in making interactive patient care an integral part of her staff's daily care process.

Care Process Integration: Seth Blanchard of Florida Hospital Orlando consistently provides exceptional leadership in incorporating interactive patient care systematically across the Hospital.

IPC Service and Support: Dave Fauver and Eric Massie of Winchester Medical Center both showed enormous personal dedication in maintaining the GetWellNetwork system and used their expertise to keep the system well maintained and performing optimally.
