ACWA Applauds Appointments to California Water Commission

Strong List of Appointees Called Well Suited for Historic Task

SACRAMENTO, CA--(Marketwire - May 14, 2010) -  Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA) Executive Director Timothy Quinn issued the following statement today on appointments to the California Water Commission announced by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

"ACWA commends the governor for his strong appointments to the California Water Commission. These appointees are excellent choices for the extraordinarily important job of charting a new course for water management in the 21st century.

"We are pleased to see the appointment of Paul Kelley, who currently serves as ACWA's president and capably represents his constituents as a director of Sonoma County Water Agency and a member of the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors.

"Before the end of the year, the commission will need to conduct an open and transparent process that will help California identify how to plan, build and operate new water storage infrastructure in the 21st century to accomplish the co-equal goals of a reliable water supply and a healthy ecosystem. It is a historic task that will require vision, commitment and a statewide perspective.

"The appointees announced today represent a cross-section of expertise and insight from all corners of the state. ACWA strongly supports these appointments and urges their confirmation by the state Senate at the earliest possible date.

"Appointments announced today for the Delta Conservancy also represent excellent choices. Together, these appointments for the conservancy and the commission will continue the momentum of the historic legislative package and the Delta Vision process to move forward with solutions for California water."

ACWA is a statewide association of public agencies whose 450 members are responsible for about 90% of the water delivered in California. For more information, visit www.acwa.com.
