Tactical Communications Group and DRS ICAS Enter Into New Technical Alliance and Marketing Agreement

Agreement Enables Cost Effective Link 16 Communication Capabilities for Global Customers

TEWKSBURY, MA--(Marketwire - August 16, 2010) -  Tactical Communications Group (TCG), the leading independent supplier of tactical data link (TDL) software solutions for military test, training and operational users worldwide, and DRS ICAS, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of DRS Defense Solutions, today announced they have signed a new technology collaboration and marketing agreement aimed at developing and marketing more cost effective, portable data link communications system for use on aircraft, ships and other military platforms needing quick-to-field, and highly affordable tactical data link capabilities.

Under the terms of the partnership, DRS ICAS and TCG will undertake joint development efforts to evaluate the benefits of combing TCG's market-leading tactical data link software with several of DRS's hardware military communications systems and technologies, including adding a Link 11 data link processing capability to DRS' new DTS-K terminal set for surface operations. The companies have also agreed to cooperate on joint go-to-market programs for any new solutions resulting from these efforts.

"Having DRS and TCG partner on developing innovative products is a natural fit that brings significant complementary capabilities together to meet urgent warfighter needs," said Logen Thiran, President DRS ICAS, SVP DRS Defense Solutions. "We anticipate that the results of our new efforts will allow our global air and naval customers to have cost-effective alternatives to the expensive solutions offered by major prime defense contractors today."

DTS-K provides Link-11 Data Terminal Set (DTS) and KG-40A crypto functionality in a single chassis for surface platforms. Compared to older systems, the DTS-K saves size, weight and power (SWaP), increases reliability and provides more data link functionality. It also provides a clear upgrade path for future data link requirements, such as Link 22. TCG's tactical data link software solutions enable high fidelity tactical data link capabilities on a quick-to-field, cost-effective basis. The combination of TCG's software with DRS's products result in new alternatives for defense customers, which are optimally efficient from a size, weight and power perspective, highly cost-effective, and quick to deploy.

"We are pleased to partner with DRS to bring advanced data link capabilities to DRS's new products," said Marty McDonough, President and CEO of TCG. "DRS's expertise in deploying integrated products supporting the warfighter, combined with TCG's focus on tactical data link software and passion for exceptional user interface design, will ensure customers receive critical capabilities faster and at a much lower cost with our off the shelf solutions."
