In 2011 the market was volatile and unpredictable, strongly influenced as it was by economic developments. This caused uncertainty and restraint among our customers. In the beginning of the year, demand in particular for volume Test and Related Services was very high. After the summer it dropped sharply, picking up again at the end of the year. Sales were also impacted by replacement of old products by new ones that as yet have realised lower sales. Consolidating production in one location had a temporary negative impact, but it has significantly increased capacity, which proved important at the end of the year.
Supply Chain Management developed very positively in 2011, while sales in Failure & Technology Analysis lagged, chiefly due to a shortage of engineers. This has now been largely solved. In order to meet expected future demand, we will continue to hire engineers. Test Engineering grew in 2011 compared to 2010, but also struggled with a shortage of engineers. In this sector, too, we will continue to hire engineers. Qualification & Reliability is showing ongoing growth, partly due to a restructuring.

'We cannot deny that we expected more for the second half of the year. The constant increase in applications proves that the market considers us an excellent partner. Partly due to various restructurings they are able to serve the market optimally. There is a significant shortage of engineers in our market, but we are well under way towards solving this issue completely,' RoodMicrotec CEO Philip Nijenhuis said.

Outlook

For 2012 limited growth (2.6%) is forecast for the global market, well under the 6% multi-year average. The macro-economic forecasts for our part of the world are not positive. This will not pass us by. RoodMicrotec has the objective to grow faster than the global market, and we have continued to do that.
Applications for our services continue to increase. This strengthens our belief that we will achieve our objective of growing faster than the global market in 2012. Even so, the macro-economic developments force us to be cautious, so we will not make concrete predictions for 2012 as yet.
