ASPA Kicks Off 2012 Conference for Public Managers

Draws 1,200 Public Servants to Las Vegas


LAS VEGAS, March 2, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In the wake of a slow recovering economy and shifting landscapes for state and local governments, more than 1,200 public administrators and nonprofit managers and employees, students and scholars gathered in Las Vegas to discuss the changing relationships between nonprofits, individuals, civil society and the public sector.

On March 2, the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) kicked off its Annual Conference, a five-day meeting that brings together a diverse group of experts, practitioners, and scholars. Through a variety of workshops, forums and keynote presentations, attendees address concerns about the public sector, public management and to discuss creative solutions for the challenges facing government. The conference theme "Redefining Public Service through Civic Engagement" serves as a guide for discussions.

The conference features keynote presentations by top federal and state officials, including Justin Johnson the deputy director of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) as well as renowned experts in the public management field like Dr. Walter Broadnax of the Maxwell School of Public Affairs at Syracuse University. OPM Deputy Director Johnson will provide the keynote address on Saturday, March 3 and Dr. Broadnax will present the Elliot Richardson Lecture series on Sunday, March 4.
