Medecision Platform Chosen to Power National ACO Enablement

Proven Care Management Expertise, Flexible SaaS-Based Platform Key to Growth for Physician-Led Accountable Care Organizations

WAYNE, PA--(Marketwire - Sep 19, 2012) -  Imperium Health Management, one of the nation's first comprehensive Accountable Care Organization (ACO) enablement providers, has selected Medecision's Aerial™ platform as the technology backbone powering its services and applications. Imperium helps ACOs improve health outcomes, meet and exceed quality targets, and benefit from shared savings under the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) program. Imperium plans to use Medecision's Aerial technology for its best-in-class care management capabilities to drive improved patient coordination and reduce unnecessary treatments.

"Imperium was established to help primary care physician-led ACOs facilitate care coordination and timely interventions, and we fully understood that we needed a technology platform that would be a value liberating factor," said Gary D. Thompson, president and CEO of Imperium Health Management. "We selected Medecision because we need a technology partner to enable quick entry into the market with all the right tools, analytics and guidelines, so our nurses could take on care management functions quickly and do them well."

Medecision's Aerial platform is designed to address the challenges that ACOs and other risk-bearing organizations are facing daily -- offering state-of-the-art, open, scalable applications that include care and case management, disease management, utilization management, provider and consumer (member) connectivity and engagement, population management, and wellness. Aerial has been successfully deployed to health plans, healthcare delivery systems, and physician group practices.

"Payer and provider organizations are already using Aerial to drive improved outcomes, an improved care delivery experience for patients, and improved efficiency. Imperium's focus on enabling physician-led ACOs to coordinate and optimize care across Medicare patient populations is the next step in our vision to deliver connected care everywhere," said Deborah M. Gage, president and CEO of Medecision. "As the leading innovator of technology solutions for care management, Medecision is thrilled to partner with a truly groundbreaking company like Imperium."

Proven care management expertise
"At Imperium, we believe that our primary care-centric approach is critical in leading the healthcare transformation that is upon us. Medecision shares this vision and has a keen understanding of how to transform care management to meet today's demands," said Thompson. "And nobody we found matched Medecision in terms of architectural flexibility and speed to market. With Medecision, Imperium has the integrated information systems we need to start small, think big, move fast, and scale up, helping us be nimble enough to meet current needs and have a roadmap for tomorrow's challenges."

Breaking the chains of siloed information
Medecision's Aerial care management solutions were also central to Imperium's decision. "Aerial helps break the chains of siloed information so that our care teams have what they need to intelligently support their patients," Thompson said. "We look forward to working with Medecision and leveraging its experience in innovative, value-based care. We also appreciate its ability to offer Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions so smaller organizations can have the technology they need to support their initiatives. Aerial will be the lifeblood of our organization, helping us confidently tackle the challenges of enabling accountable care."

Imperium was recently awarded three new contracts with physician practices covering approximately 22,000 Medicare patients. "Among our goals is to help practices qualify for new Medicare incentives for organizations that meet certain benchmarks in optimized care delivery," said Thompson. "With the CMS expecting to accept more than 400 ACOs for these incentives early next year, and with more than half of those falling within Imperium's niche of small physician-led initiatives, we are well-positioned for continued growth with Medecision as our partner."

Using Aerial as a centralized care management platform for the smooth exchange of essential health information, Imperium will gain new capabilities to help its clients improve disease and case management, generate and manage vital correspondence among patients, providers and payers, and easily track a patient's clinical summaries in electronic rather than paper-based format.

"Our solutions were built to support the ACO model," said Gage. "Partnering with a company like Imperium that helps organizations become CMS-accepted ACOs will advance our solutions as the market evolves. We look forward to working with Imperium and providing the technology support and expertise they need to achieve their goals."
