WASHINGTON, Feb. 28, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) applauds Jack Lew on becoming the new Secretary of the United States Treasury. The U.S. Senate approved Lew with a bi-partisan majority vote of 71-26.
Jack Lew served as President Obama's Chief of Staff from 2012-2013. Lew has extensive budget management experience, serving as Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) under President Bill Clinton from 1998-2001, where, under his direction, the U.S. budget operated at a surplus for three consecutive years. Lew returned to OMB under President Obama's administration in 2010. At the State Department, Lew became the first Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources. He also has private sector experience, serving as Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer of Citi Global Wealth Management and later Citi Alternative Investments.

Lew began his career in Washington in 1973 as a legislative aide. From 1979 to 1987, he was the principal domestic policy advisor to House Speaker Thomas P. O'Neill, Jr, where he served at the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee as Assistant Director and then Executive Director.
He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the National Academy of Social Insurance, and is registered to practice law in Massachusetts and the District of Columbia.
