Spartan Chassis Teams With Fouts Bros. and PolyBilt to Deliver a Custom Pumper With an Integrated Polyprene Body and Tank

This Industry First is Featured on a Spartan Metro Star-X Chassis and is on Display in Booth No. 8427

INDIANAPOLIS, April 25, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Spartan Chassis, a subsidiary of Spartan Motors, Inc. (Nasdaq:SPAR), Fouts Bros. and PolyBilt today unveiled their apparatus, the CMP 300, at the Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC). The CMP 300 integrates a Polyprene body and tank, a first for the emergency response industry. This innovative construction enables many operational benefits including larger compartments, the ability to carry more water on-board, along with a lower center of gravity to improve vehicle stability. Built on the Metro Star-X Custom Spartan Chassis, the truck will be sold by Fouts Bros. Fire Equipment and will be on display in booth 8427 through Saturday.

"American fire trucks are typically made out of aluminum or stainless steel," says Dennis Schneider, President of Spartan Emergency Response, "however Polyprene models are attractive because of their lower cost, reduced weight and excellent durability. PolyBilt is a pioneering supplier of poly-based bodies, so we are were pleased to have the partnership with Fouts Bros., PolyBilt and Spartan as this truck is about redefining technology."

The PolyBilt body's strength and flexibility reduces shock transfers through the body in the event of a high-speed collision, keeping damage to a minimum. Additionally, its lighter weight body carries more equipment in larger compartments, is heat resistant (vehicle paint will ignite and tires will melt before the body is affected) and the body is less likely to rust, corrode, crack, chip or peel.

"Spartan Chassis and PolyBilt are renowned suppliers in the emergency response vehicle industry," says Scott Edens, president and CEO of Fouts Bros. "We pride ourselves on manufacturing affordable products that provide great value to our customers and the CMP 300 will be an important vehicle in our lineup."
