AWA's Island Cargo Support Division Helps Ensure Smooth Operations at StarKist's Cannery in American Samoa

ICS' Air Freight Division Keeps StarKist's Production Lines and Global Supply Chain Moving With Weekly Service

LONG BEACH, Calif., Aug. 29, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Island Cargo Support (ICS) division of American Worldwide Agencies (AWA),a connected, global network of freight forwarders and agents, plays a key role in helping StarKist keep its tuna cannery in American Samoa operating efficiently. The cannery, one of the largest single production facilities in the world, recently celebrated its 50th anniversary.

ICS provides StarKist with door-to-door freight forwarding services that facilitate its importation of machine parts and other critical supplies needed to keep the cannery up and running. These services include weekly and express air transport pickups from suppliers throughout the U.S., and expedited cargo clearance.

StarKist is the largest employer on American Samoa with more than 2,000 workers. "On-time and urgent deliveries are essential to our ability to keep this plant running and its people employed," says Brett Butler, general manager of the StarKist Samoa plant operations. "StarKist Samoa is one of the largest producing plants in the world and our location is somewhat isolated, so ICS' many service options are important to us." In addition, he says, "ICS adds a personal touch and has experience in our industry."

ICS President Tony Feist says StarKist is a great example of his company's ability to handle big accounts successfully. "StarKist trusts us with their business because of our hands-on approach," says Feist. "They count on our service to keep their tuna production lines going. The air freight shipments we coordinate for them are critical to their business and we do whatever it takes to support their supply chain," he says.
