HERNDON, Va. – Nov. 20, 2013 – At the beginning of November, Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Lake Charles Maintenance and Modification Center in Lake Charles, La., set a significant milestone by attaining a zero incident rate for 1 million hours of employee work. Personnel at Lake Charles provide programmed depot maintenance for the U.S. Air Force E-8 Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System (Joint STARS) and contractor logistics support for the Air Force KC-10 Extender.
"This is a phenomenal accomplishment and a credit to the keen attention to detail and 'safety first' mindset of everyone in Lake Charles," said Marty Thompson, site director, Northrop Grumman Lake Charles Maintenance and Modification Center. "As our safety record directly correlates to higher product and service quality while also realizing greater customer satisfaction on the programs we support. Our team's performance significantly influences the company's ability to deliver on time and schedule while driving higher performance."
This is the first time the site has achieved this mark since 2003 and only the second time since the site opened more than 20 years ago. According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the aerospace industry averages eight day-away injuries per million hours worked.

In addition to their depot support of Joint STARS and KC-10, Lake Charles personnel have also performed work on U.S. Navy E-2 Hawkeyes and EA-6B Prowlers, U.K Royal Air Force E-3Sentry, and the E-7A Wedgetail.
