Michael Moore to keynote IP law symposium at John Marshall

CHICAGO, Oct. 21, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Filmmaker Michael Moore will be the keynote speaker at The John Marshall Law School Review of Intellectual Property Law 6th Annual Symposium in Chicago on October 24, 2014.

This year's symposium, Art Meets Law: The Intersection of Art and Intellectual Property, will feature experts in intellectual property (IP) law who focus their practice and scholarship in the arts. Topics include how to define art, how courts look at art and appropriation, the importance of cultural heritage, and trademarks as art.

Michael Moore, who is best known for making documentaries such as Bowling for Columbine, Sicko and Roger & Me, will be the luncheon keynote speaker. He will speak to symposium attendees about his experience as a filmmaker, journalist and writer and how IP law has played a part in his career.

Moore is in town to present at the Chicago International Film Festival and a special showing to honor the 25th anniversary of his film Roger & Me.

Each year the IP symposium brings together a group of individuals to publish their writings in The John Marshall Law School Review of Intellectual Property Law Journal.

For the second year in a row, John Marshall boasts the 12th-ranked intellectual property law program in the nation, according to the 2015 U.S. News & World Report. The law school has been a consistent leader in intellectual property law since the creation of its IP programs 75 years ago.
