Concurrent Technologies Corporation Named Affiliate Member of U.S. Department of Energy's Joint Center for Energy Storage Research


JOHNSTOWN, Pa., Feb. 26, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Concurrent Technologies Corporation (CTC) has received affiliate level status with the Joint Center for Energy Storage Research (JCESR), an energy innovation hub sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science. Led by the U.S. Department of Energy's Argonne National Laboratory, JCESR pursues high performance, inexpensive, beyond lithium-ion electricity storage that will help transform transportation and the electricity grid.

"Our interest is to collaborate with academia, national laboratories, industry and clients in the area of energy storage to advance scientific breakthroughs into commercial viable solutions that lead to overall system improvements," said Vicki A. Barbur, PhD, CTC's senior vice president and chief technical officer. "As a JCESR affiliate, we will join with other national leaders in science and engineering to help enable next-generation energy storage solutions."

According to Dan Markiewicz, senior principal engineer and technology platform leader for energy storage at CTC, "Over the past 18 years, CTC has successfully integrated energy storage in stationary, mobile and man-portable applications for clients, including the U.S. Department of Energy. The company is currently investigating electrolyte additives, battery component improvements, and the ability to level-load plants. These activities include all aspects of inquiry and study from modeling and simulation and prototype development to single-cell testing and stack scale-up."
