John Marshall Law School Students Take Top Prizes at Illinois Journalism Competition

Students from The John Marshall Law School have demonstrated their writing and editorial skills in a competitive statewide contest. Law students working on John Marshall's The Decisive Utterance newspaper won in multiple categories of the recent Illinois College Press Association competition.


CHICAGO, March 12, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Students from The John Marshall Law School have demonstrated their writing and editorial skills in a competitive statewide contest. Law students working on John Marshall's The Decisive Utterance newspaper won in multiple categories of the recent Illinois College Press Association competition.

"All of us at The Decisive Utterance are honored to have won," Editor-in-Chief Nick Vogel said. "Each semester we are humbled when fellow law students find time to contribute for the paper. We were even more honored to win, considering our competition consisted of journalism students writing for respected student papers throughout the state. The Decisive Utterance is just a handful of busy law students and we are very proud to have fared so well."

The contest honors the editorial work of students at Illinois higher education institutions. John Marshall students won in the following categories:

  • 1st Place, Best Headline – Nick Vogel
  • 3rd Place, Best Column – Joseph Klocke
  • 3rd Place, Best Feature Photo – Nick Vogel
  • 4th Place, Best Editorial – Joseph Klocke, Nick Vogel, Meghan Troc

John Marshall students face a rigorous, intensive writing curriculum. The school boasts the largest in-house writing resource center in the U.S., employing legal writing specialists who work one-on-one with students to sharpen their skills.

John Marshall's legal writing program recently was ranked No. 5 in the country, and best in Illinois, by U.S. News & World Report.
