Eardatek Expands Outdoor Units Product Line; Featuring Entropic's Channel Stacking Switch IC Technologies

Entropic's EN5288 Advanced Analog Channel Stacking Switch Technology in Volume Production by Eardatek into the African Satellite Market

Entropic's EN5520–Digital Channel Stacking Switch Solution–Selected by Eardatek for New Low Noise Block Digital Outdoor Unit Products

BEIJING, March 25, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) (China Content Broadcasting Network Exhibition – Radisson "Blu" Beijing) -- Entropic (Nasdaq:ENTR), a world leader in semiconductor solutions for the connected home, and Earda Electronics Ltd (Brand name Eardatek), one of the leading manufacturers of RF modules worldwide, announced that Eardatek is in volume production with the 4x2 Low Noise Block (LNB) (model UKT1) using Entropic's EN5288 IC for their direct broadcast satellite (DBS) service deployments in Africa. The companies also announced that Eardatek will implement its next generation ODU LNB using Entropic's second-generation digital Channel Stacking Switch (CSS™) technology, the EN5520 IC.

The UKT1 DBS outdoor unit LNB product is based on Entropic's analog CSS silicon, the EN5288. The LNB was developed to address the growing multi-tuner, multi-viewing location home and gives the operator an opportunity to offer more services and entertainment to its subscribers by supporting four tuners off of a single-cable feed. The UKT1 is now in volume production serving the African Satellite Market.

In addition, Eardatek is expanding its existing ODU product line and has selected Entropic's advanced second-generation dCSS solution – the EN5520 – to power its next generation LNB. Entropic's EN5520 is a highly-integrated dCSS solution, with the world's lowest-power, most cost-optimized and smallest form factor when compared to competitive ODU products. The EN5520 provides 32 user bands to support more tuner/demodulators as DBS operators migrate to gateway/client architectures. Additionally, Entropic's single-chip dCSS solution supports both multi-switch and LNB applications and enables Eardatek's products to conform to CENELEC standards EN50494 and EN50607, supported by user-defined functions that are configurable to operators.

"Entropic is a market leader in CSS technology, and its ODU product line offers superior performance for our existing and new line of LNB products for satellite operators in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) regions," said Jeffrey Geng, General Manager at Eardatek. "Working closely with our satellite operator customers, Eardatek has developed LNB products that cater to the different requirements of the various satellite networks, thereby ensuring that the significant advantages of this technology are fully and most effectively aligned with each operator's specific requirements. The EN5520 will enable us to offer the lowest power dCSS-based products on the market."

Entropic's EN5520 leverages proprietary mixed-signal calibration algorithms, crosstalk and spur mitigation techniques to ensure reliable performance over a broad range of operating conditions, providing immunity to process, voltage and temperature variance. In addition to the industry's lowest power solution, the EN5520 includes features like multiple outputs and support for legacy, non-CSS set-top boxes. With its fully configurable User Band architecture, the EN5520 allows maximum flexibility for coexistence with Home Networking solutions, custom frequency plans, and mitigation around interferers.

"Africa and the Middle East are among the fastest growing direct broadcast satellite markets globally," said Al Servati, vice president, Marketing, Entropic. "We are proud to be working with Eardatek to develop and deploy current and future Generation LNBs – enabling these operators to multiplex multiple channels from their satellite onto a single coaxial cable. With the Entropic-based Eardatek solution, we are enabling operators to reach more DVRs and STBs throughout the home, while also providing a single-cable backbone for future home networking solutions."

The EN5288 is shipping in volume. The EN5520 is available for sampling. Entropic will be demonstrating its full range of ODU products at the 2015 CCBN conference in the Entropic Meeting Suite, located at Radisson "Blu" Beijing – Meeting Room suite 1420.
