America’s 50 Best Hospitals for Stroke Care Recognized by the Women’s Choice Award(R)

In an Effort to Further Educate Women for American Stroke Month This May

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla., May 21, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Women’s Choice Award proudly announces America’s 50 Best Hospitals for Stroke Care. According to the American Heart Association (AHA) and American Stroke Association (ASA), stroke is the fifth leading cause of death in the U.S., and the leading cause of adult disability. Every 40 seconds, someone will suffer from a stroke, resulting in more than 795,000 annually affected, with more than 137,000 deaths. For women, statistics indicate that 1 in 3 women will die of heart disease and stroke (AHA, 2015).

The Women’s Choice Award seal is the only credential that integrates clinical excellence from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and consumer experience, to provide women, the family’s Chief Health Officers, the ability to make the best healthcare decisions for their families.

The following hospitals below have chosen to carry the Women’s Choice Award seal, signifying their commitment to meet the needs and preferences of their female patients. For a complete listing of awarded hospitals, visit http://www.womenschoiceaward.com/awarded/best-hospitals/stroke-care/

“We congratulate these hospitals for their dedication to education, prevention, and early intervention to reduce the devastating effects of stroke,” said Sharyn S. Lee, RN, MS, FACEHP, President of the Healthcare Division of the Women’s Choice Award.

In order to be eligible for this award, hospitals must be accredited by the Joint Commission/ASA as an Advanced Primary Care Stroke Center or an Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center. In addition, publicly available data from CMS and patient recommendation ratings data were included, when assessing each hospital’s clinical performance.

“Our main goal is to grow a woman’s awareness of the Best Stroke Centers in America, so when faced with a stroke she will know where to go for the best care,” stated Delia Passi, Founder and CEO of the Women’s Choice Award.
