Mitzel replaces Albert B. Braunfisch, chairman of the board at Mspark, who has served as interim CEO since April 14, 2015.

Prior to joining Mspark, Mitzel was president of C Street Solutions, a Suffield, Conn.,-based consulting firm that he founded in November 2014. Before that, he worked for 14 years at Valassis Communications, Livonia, Mich., in various executive-level roles of increasing responsibility culminating in general manager/senior vice president - shared mail. In this position, Mitzel had P&L responsibility for a $1.4 billion direct mail division that contributed 90% of profit and 65% of revenue for the entire company. Earlier in his career, Mitzel served in finance and accounting roles at Dynamis Solutions, Farmington Hills, Mich.; SmithGroup, Detroit, Mich.; and PricewaterhouseCoopers, Detroit, Mich.
Mitzel holds both an M.B.A. and a bachelor's degree in business administration from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Mich.
