OMA Presents TestFest and Seminar Aimed at IoT Industry

January 2016 Test Event and Free Seminar-Webinar Open to Both OMA Members and Non-Members Developing Products and Services for the Internet of Things

SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwired - November 19, 2015) - The Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) today announced that registration is now open for two events targeted at developers of Internet of Things (IoT) products and services happening in San Diego, California in January 2016. OMA will be sponsoring a TestFest January 18-21 and a free seminar and webinar the evening of January 21. Both events will take place at the DoubleTree by Hilton San Diego-Mission Valley at 7450 Hazard Center Drive, San Diego, California, 92108, USA.

Following on from a successful TestFest held at the Vodafone offices in Düsseldorf, Germany in January 2015, OMA will host a TestFest for any company who would like to test their OMA-based client or server implementation. This event is open to both OMA Members and non-members. Test cases will be available for OMA Lightweight M2M and other OMA Enablers upon request. For more information and to register see http://openmobilealliance.org/event/oma-testfest-sandiego/.

Lightweight M2M (LwM2M) is a device management protocol designed with sensor networks and the demands of a machine-to-machine (M2M) environment in mind. With LwM2M, OMA has responded to demand in the market, understanding that a common standard for managing lightweight and low power devices on a variety of networks is necessary to realize the potential of IoT.

"Considering the billions of devices expected to be connected to networks in homes and in automobiles, as well as smart metering and medical devices, the ability to monitor, provision and manage these billions of connections becomes essential," said Seth Newberry, General Manager of the Open Mobile Alliance. "With our TestFest, OMA is happy to be able to provide a testing environment for the many companies developing products and services using the LwM2M specification."

At the conclusion of the TestFest, OMA will present a seminar entitled, "Bridging the gap between standards and developers in the IoT space." Today, in the wireless and IoT industries, there is a disconnect between the communities that produce specifications such as LwM2M and the communities that use them. This divide is one between the Standards Development Organizations (SDOs) that define how wireless networks operate and deliver services, and the application developers creating apps for use over those networks. This seminar, also available online via webinar, will focus on the processes and tools that can be employed to facilitate the use of industry standards by the developer community.

Presentations from OMA, oneM2M, Vodafone, Smith Micro and HOP Ubiquitous, among others, will give real world examples of the issues developers face and how SDOs can help. OMA will showcase the LwM2M Developer Toolkit, a list of tools for assisting developers to better understand LwM2M and how to use OMA LwM2M specifications. About Open Mobile Alliance (OMA)

OMA is the wireless industry's focal point for the development of mobile service enabler specifications, which support the creation of interoperable end-to-end mobile services. From requirements to specifications to implementations, OMA enables service architectures and open interfaces that are independent of the underlying wireless networks and platforms and that work across devices, service providers, networks, and geographies.
