Dryer Vent Wizard Awards Grants for Fire Prevention Safety in U.S. and Canada

FARMINGTON HILLS, MI--(Marketwired - Feb 16, 2016) - For the second annual year, Dryer Vent Wizard awarded grants to fire prevention programs in the U.S. and Canada. The program was initiated to help raise public awareness about prevention of dryer fires, estimated to be more than 15,500 each year in the U.S. alone.

Dryer Vent Wizard specializes in dryer vent repair, replacement, cleaning and maintenance of dryers for residential and commercial use. DVW franchisees were invited to nominate fire departments that conduct outstanding fire prevention education programs in their communities.

"We've received such a great response to this initiative that we doubled the number of grants awarded this year," said Terry Reuer, DVW CEO. "Fire departments and districts do an outstanding job educating the public about fire safety, and many do so with very limited resources."

In the U.S., four grants were awarded to include: New Lenox Fire Protection District in New Lenox, Ill.; Cosumnes Fire Department in Elk Grove, Calif.; Greenville Fire and EMS in Greenville, Wisc.; and Excelsior Fire District in Excelsior, Minnesota.

In Canada, grants were awarded to Nanaimo Fire Station 1 in Nanaimo, British Columbia and King Fire and Emergency Services in King City, Ontario.

Several of the grant recipients shared that the money would be used to purchase educational materials for children in local elementary schools. The recipient in British Columbia indicated the grant will help fund its smoke detector program which provides smoke detectors to homes that do not have or cannot afford them.

"We want to congratulate our franchisees for their efforts in nominating these deserving programs," added Reuer.

Founded in 2004 and headquartered in Farmington Hills, Mich., Dryer Vent Wizard is a member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). DVW franchisees service more than 9,000 communities of all sizes throughout the U.S. and Canada and helps raise public awareness about the importance of dryer vent cleaning to prevent dryer fires and save energy.
