TokBox Appoints Former Twilio and Cisco Execs, Launches Further Global Expansion

WebRTC Leader Appoints Brian Johnson, Tejas Bhandarkar and Chris Koehncke to Support Further Growth Across North America, LATAM, Europe and APAC in Line With Global Demand for Real-Time Communications Solutions

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - May 24, 2016) - TokBox, a Telefónica company, today announced a slate of senior appointments, underlining the company's rapid growth and leadership in real-time communications.

As TokBox continues the expansion of its platform and global presence, it confirmed the appointment of former Twilio and Nexmo VP Brian Johnson as VP of Global Business Development, former Cisco Product Director Tejas Bhandarkar as VP of Product, and Chris Koehncke known as a co-creator of the Kranky Geek WebRTC events, as Senior Director of Business Development, APAC. The addition of these industry leaders demonstrates TokBox's commitment to being the leading platform for real-time communications and interactive broadcast.

In addition to the three strategic hires, TokBox also announced further expansion of its operational footprint in APAC. This is in response to a significant increase in demand from corporations, education providers, social networks, and health care networks in the region for real-time video, voice, screen sharing, messaging and live broadcasting capabilities. TokBox, which operates data centres in Singapore, Beijing, Shanghai, Tokyo, Sydney, and Hong Kong, and which has a development team in Sydney, will further leverage Telefonica's global presence to support its rapidly growing customer base in the region. TokBox offers 24x7 global support for enterprise customers.

The growth in TokBox's team and business reflects the broader market movement toward embedded, real-time communications, where TokBox has a clear leadership position with the OpenTok platform.

Brian Johnson commented on the trend toward embedded communications: "Customers everywhere and in all verticals are becoming aware of the benefits of real-time embedded communications and interactive broadcast. TokBox provides an easy to use, globally scaled, enterprise-grade WebRTC platform and API for integrating voice, video, screen sharing and messaging into websites and mobile applications."

"Customers who have used legacy telephony and messaging platforms in the past are now scrambling to migrate to this newer technology, as it's now clear WebRTC is a major game changer that fundamentally shifts the way organizations think about communications. This is a very exciting time to be joining TokBox, which has all the credibility and capability to be the globally dominant player in the space."

TokBox CEO, Scott Lomond said: "Brian, Tejas and Chris all bring a remarkable set of strategic capabilities, extensive experience in the real-time communications space and a deep belief in the power of embedded communications. Leveraging their demonstrated talent and established networks, our newest executives will accelerate TokBox's growth around the world. We are excited and proud to welcome three outstanding executives who share our vision to become the leading global platform for real-time communications."
