McGaw was honored for his Commute Alternatives vision and advocacy at the 2016 ACT International Conference in Portland, Ore. ACT selects one employee transportation champion annually for “demonstrating a commitment to promoting and advancing commuter transportation options at their worksite.”

McGaw’s Commute Alternatives program has achieved outstanding results serving employees at athenahealth offices in Boston, Austin and San Francisco:

  • 120,000+ passenger transfers
  • 279 single occupancy vehicles (SOVs) eliminated
  • 662 metric tons of CO2 removed

Anchored at its 29-acre headquarters campus on the Charles River in Boston, athenahealth’s best-in-class, multi-modal Commute Alternative system features employee shuttles, car sharing and bike sharing, including WeDriveU Last Mile shuttles, New Hire Shuttles and Employee Volunteer Shuttles for community engagement.

ACT praised McGaw’s success addressing limited public transportation, parking constraints and sustainability goals by encouraging employees to adopt alternative forms of commuting beyond their cars. McGaw’s achievements include rapidly scaling a Last Mile employee shuttle program, leveraging technology, advocating for off-road bike path improvements, and embracing Transportation Demand Management (TDM) best practices.

ACT executive director David Straus said, “athenahealth has made itself a national leader in providing exemplary commuter benefits to its workforce. ACT congratulates Bridger McGaw for his leadership in developing and implementing such an impactful program.”

"I am honored to have been selected by ACT for this award,” said Bridger McGaw, who heads environmental safety and security at athenaEnvironment, and is vice president of athena diversity council. “All over the country dedicated individuals are working hard to improve private and public transportation infrastructure so that our economy can continue to grow.  I'm proud our team has been acknowledged for our efforts to create a sustainable and responsible transportation network.”

“We congratulate Bridger and athenahealth on being honored by ACT for a best-in-class Commute Alternatives program that is considered the benchmark for improving mobility, reducing environmental impact and caring for employees and the community,” said Dennis Carlson, CEO and Founder, WeDriveU. “WeDriveU is proud to serve as athenahealth’s transportation partner in realizing Bridger’s vision to develop sustainable and efficient commute alternatives for athenistas.”
