Julia R. Hesse Selected as Speaker for HIMSS17

BOSTON, Jan. 24, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- HIMSS has named Julia R. Hesse as a speaker for the 2017 HIMSS Conference & Exhibition, which will be held on Sunday, Feb. 19- Thursday, Feb. 23, in Orlando, Fla., at the Orange County Convention Center.  Ms. Hesse is a healthcare and regulatory partner at Choate, Hall & Stewart LLP. The vision of improving health and healthcare with information technology has been the focus of HIMSS since its establishment in 1961. As a global voice, convener and thought leader, HIMSS advises stakeholders on IT best practices to improve the quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness of health and healthcare.

Ms. Hesse will present, “Data Security: Threat Assessment in the Ransomware Era” on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at 11:30am at HIMSS17. Attendees will hear from legal experts who will identify practical tactics for developing a data security program among disparate vendors by conducting and documenting risk assessments and application-specific security standards. This session will focus on threat assessment in light of ransomware and other attacks that interrupt business and disrupt services.

The HIMSS Annual Conference Education Committee (ACEC), chaired by Thompson H. Boyd, III, MD, FACHE, CHCQM, CPHIM, CPHM, CPHIMS, physician liaison, Hahnemann University Hospital, in Philadelphia, PA., selected the more than 200 educational sessions that will be presented at the conference.

Proposals under review by the ACEC have gone through a peer-review selection process for enhanced efficiency and quality in selection of the educational offerings at the conference. This committee, composed of 14 appointed HIMSS volunteers from across all member constituencies, reviews and selects all presentations with those representing an organization or non-commercial interest given preference, a guideline followed to achieve continuing medical education or CME requirements.

“Hospitals, health systems and health IT providers are significantly challenged in developing actionable, practical tactics for conducting risk assessments,” said Hesse. “As wearables and personalized medicine continue to drive the rapid proliferation of data to doctors across a variety of networks, HIPPA should be at the forefront of concerns of companies. I look forward to discussing these trends in depth at HIMSS17.”

“HIMSS is recognized for its quality and relevant programming. At HIMSS17, we will have more than 300 speakers share their expertise during our pre-conference and conference educational sessions,” said JoAnn W. Klinedinst, MEd, CPHIMS, PMP, FHIMSS, vice president, professional development, for HIMSS. “I congratulate the presenters who will be part of our extensive and diverse programming schedule for HIMSS17.”
