Oklahoma State Board of Education Approves Istation as Reading Screener

Istation, a national leader in education technology, has been approved as a reading screener in Oklahoma.

DALLAS, June 05, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Oklahoma State Board of Education has approved Istation, a national leader in educational technology, as a reading screener for kindergarten through third grade.

This approval is in effect for the 2017-2018 academic year as part of Oklahoma’s Reading Sufficiency Act (RSA). Istation is approved for use at the beginning and end of the school year, for monitoring of progress, and for measurement of reading skills at the end of the school year.

As part of the approval process, Istation has verified that its early reading assessment meets the following criteria from the RSA:

  • Assesses for phonemic awareness, phonics, reading fluency, and comprehension;
  • Documents the validity and reliability of its assessment;
  • Can be used for diagnosis and progress monitoring;
  • Can be used to assess special education and limited-English-proficient students; and
  • Is accompanied by a data management system that provides profiles for students, class, grade level and school building. The profiles identify each student’s instructional point of need and reading achievement level.

Istation’s program provides reliable data with frequent, age-appropriate measurement for students. While adjusting to each student’s reading ability, the interactive assessment keeps developing readers engaged and provides educators with the data they need to help students grow.

“We are pleased and honored to be chosen as a partner with Oklahoma public schools,” said Istation Chairman and CEO Richard H. Collins. “We believe in the importance of literacy for all students and hope that with this approval we are able to further serve the needs of Oklahoma schools.”
