Unifi Acknowledged as a Representative Vendor in the Market Guide for Data Preparation by Gartner

Unifi Has Capabilities Across All 11 Modern Data Preparation Tool Capabilities Reviewed by Gartner

SAN MATEO, Calif., Dec. 21, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Unifi Software, the leader in self-service access to data, today announced that for the second year in a row Unifi has been listed as a Representative Vendor in the Gartner Market Guide for Data Preparation.* In the 2017 Market Guide for Data Preparation, Unifi has capabilities across all 11 Modern Data Preparation Tool Capabilities reviewed by Gartner.

In a market that is crowded with a range of choices, Unifi is unique in its ability to provide a seamlessly integrated suite of self-service data tools for business users that is fully governed by IT, optimized for the cloud, and with an AI-engine powering every pillar of its platform.

“We are extremely pleased to see that Unifi has again shown, what we believe is, strong value in meeting requirements laid out in Gartner’s 2017 Market Guide for Data Preparation. Unifi has each of the capabilities listed in the report,” said Rob Carlson, Co-Founder and CEO of Unifi Software. “We know first-hand the tasks associated with data preparation have traditionally been tough things to do, and the delay from hypothesis to insight costs U.S. businesses billions each year. We believe the best way forward is to empower business users with self-service access to data to get the insights they need instantly while ensuring that IT has oversight for security, compliance and governance. That’s exactly what Unifi delivers.”

Traditional IT tools designed to accelerate the process of dealing with data requests from the business have not kept pace with the rate of growth of new data sources, many of which are unstructured and streaming into businesses at far greater volumes, or the need to access publicly available data to get a holistic and accurate view on which to base outcomes. The scope of capabilities required to get immediate access to data to accelerate shifts in business must therefore broaden and it’s our view that this thinking is reflected as well in this year’s report.

In the report, Gartner lists 11 capabilities needed in a modern data preparation tool (Data ingestion exploration and profiling; Data cataloging and basic metadata management; Data structuring, modeling and transformation; Basic data quality and security; Data enrichment; User collaboration; Data source access and connectivity; Machine learning; Deployment models; Domain- or vertical-specific offerings or templates; Integration with other data integration, analytics/BI and data science platforms, MDM, and information stewardship solutions). Unifi has all of these capabilities.1 Gartner anticipates “by 2023, machine-learning-augmented master data management (MDM), data quality, data preparation and data catalogs will converge into a single modern enterprise information management (EIM) platform used for the majority of new analytics projects.”

Unifi is unique in its approach to making data broadly accessible to every business user and professional inside of an organization by delivering all of these capabilities today in a seamlessly integrated suite of self-service data tools. Unifi’s latest release of its Unifi Data Platform with OneMind™ is an innovative leap forward with an AI-engine that predicts and recommends, and thereby automates, many of the steps a user must take to cleanse, enrich, parse, normalize, transform, filter, and format data prior to visualization. Artificial Intelligence (AI) powers every pillar of the Unifi self-service data platform including data catalog and discovery, governance and security, and workflow automation.

The market for self-service data preparation is currently estimated to be around $779 million in software revenue and will continue to grow and experience a 18.5 percent CAGR (from 2016 through 2021), reaching an estimated value of $1.5 billion by 2021, according to Gartner2.

Gartner recommends that data and analytics leaders modernizing their data management and analytics strategies “develop a deployment strategy for data preparation to enhance user understanding of data, reduce data preparation efforts and increase agility. Evaluate vendors based on capabilities, integration points, pricing and roadmaps.” The report continues, “Investigate your data preparation vendors' roadmap on their current or planned support for extended data preparation capabilities to improve the interactive experience, facilitate timely insights and enhance enterprise readiness. Examples include the inclusion of data science libraries, more-intuitive data preparation workflows, improved governance, collaboration, machine learning and cataloging.”
