Former Federal Prosecutor Miranda Hooker Joins Pepper Hamilton in Boston

Hooker Brings Experience from U.S. Attorney’s Health Care Fraud Unit to Pepper’s Nationally Recognized Health Sciences Department

BOSTON, Sept. 05, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Pepper Hamilton LLP announced today that Miranda Hooker has joined the firm as a partner in the Health Sciences Department, resident in the Boston office.

Ms. Hooker, a former Assistant U.S. Attorney, joins the firm from the Health Care Fraud Unit of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts, where she was responsible for investigating and prosecuting Medicare and Medicaid fraud and violations of FDA laws and regulations, including allegations of off-label marketing and violations of the Anti-Kickback Statute. At Pepper, her practice will focus on government investigations, health care fraud and abuse matters, and internal corporate investigations.

“As a former federal prosecutor in Boston, the nation’s most active enforcement authority in health care cases, Miranda brings unparalleled experience to Pepper,” said Thomas M. Gallagher, chair of the firm’s Executive Committee. “We expect Miranda to be in high demand by our health sciences clients facing government investigations.”

Ms. Hooker will represent pharmaceutical companies, medical device manufacturers, payors, health care providers, and other entities and individuals in federal criminal, civil and state attorney general investigations and enforcement actions. She will also conduct internal investigations for clients, focusing on those in the health care industry.

“Pepper Hamilton has a strong reputation in the health care and white collar sectors, both at a national level and in Boston,” Ms. Hooker said. “I’m excited to join the team and leverage my experience to deliver significant results for Pepper’s clients.”

Ms. Hooker is the ninth lateral partner to join Pepper in 2018 and follows the addition of fellow white collar and health care attorney Callan G. Stein, who joined the firm’s Boston office in July.

Ms. Hooker received a J.D., summa cum laude, from Suffolk University Law School in 2004 and an A.B. from Smith College.
