Washington, D.C., Sept. 11, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Toni Townes-Whitley, the President of U.S. Regulated Industries at Microsoft and a national leader in the technology industry, has been elected to the Board of Directors for the American Institutes for Research (AIR). Townes-Whitley is an internationally recognized expert on leveraging technology to create a positive impact on society in the U.S. and abroad.

As President of U.S. Regulated Industries, Townes-Whitley oversees Microsoft’s strategic efforts to employ technologies that can help improve public sector and regulated industries, including government, health, education and financial services. She also is helping to lead the formulation of Microsoft’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) National Plans around the world and represents the global salesforce on Microsoft’s AI and Ethics in Engineering and Research Committee, which recommends policies and procedures that address the implications and opportunities of AI on society.
Townes-Whitley represents Microsoft on the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, in which she works with industry CEOs to address global issues around urbanization, climate change, and workforce readiness. She has helped to shape Microsoft’s Digital Leadership vision and narrative that extends the company's focus beyond customer transformation to responsible and principled implementation of technology and inclusiveness.
Prior to joining Microsoft, Townes-Whitley was president of CGI Federal and held several management roles at Unisys Corporation. A graduate of Princeton University, Townes-Whitley has earned certifications from Wharton Executive Education, New York University, and the Performance Management Institutes, and is a sought-after writer and presenter on IT innovation in society.
