30th Annual Federal 100 Awards Top Honors Announced

MCLEAN, VA, April 01, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- FCW, published by 1105 Media, Inc., announced the winners of the 2019 Government Eagle, Industry Eagle and President’s Awards at the 30th Annual Federal 100 Awards Gala.

Alan Balutis of Cisco Systems won the President’s Award for his career-long contributions to the federal IT community.   Unisys CEO Peter Altabef won the Industry Eagle Award for his leadership of the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee's Cybersecurity Moonshot initiative throughout 2018.  And Federal Deputy CIO Margie Graves won the Government Eagle Award for her instrumental role in driving government wide IT modernization initiatives last year.

The Federal 100 Awards honor individuals from both government and industry who have gone above and beyond to make a real difference in the way technology helps government with its core missions. Honorees were celebrated at the 30th annual Federal 100 Awards ceremony on March 28th at the Grand Hyatt in Washington, DC. This year’s event hosted more than 900 registered attendees. The complete list of the 2019 winners can be found at http://fed100.com.

The two Eagle winners are chosen from each year’s Federal 100 for their exceptional accomplishments, and are revealed the night of the event.

The President’s Award – also a secret until the Fed 100 gala itself -- was created in 2008 to recognize  work by individuals in the federal IT community that does not fit into the strict rules that otherwise govern the Federal 100 awards.  “Over the years we have recognized groups and individuals from government and industry who have made a contribution to our community, and Alan is honored for his dedication to the strategic role of the CIO over his decades-long career in government and industry,” “said Anne Armstrong, 1105 Public Sector Media Group’s President and Chief Content Officer.

Balutis, a Senior Director and Distinguished Fellow at Cisco, has won seven Federal 100 awards in the program’s 30-year history – more than any other individual.   The first four came while Balutis was at the Department of Commerce, the fifth recognized his accomplishments at the organization now known as ACT-IAC, and the final two were earned for his work while at Cisco with other organization to help implement government management agendas and legislation.

“The consistent theme of the President’s Award has been improving the strategic use of information technology to help agencies deliver on their missions,” John Garrett, Senior Director at Dell EMC Federal, said in presenting the President's Award on March 28th.  “Alan Balutis’s career has truly been an excellent example of that theme.”
