Accellion Protects Organizations’ Most Sensitive Content With Simple and Flexible Authentication

Support for Various Authentication Tools Prevents Data Breaches and Compliance Violations

PALO ALTO, Calif., Oct. 22, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Accellion, Inc., provider of the secure content communication platform that prevents data breaches and compliance violations from third party cyber risk, today announced extensive authentication support for organizations to protect their PII, PHI, and IP from unauthorized access.

Organizations significantly reduce the risk of a data breach or compliance violation when they require users to confirm their identity prior to accessing confidential information stored in content repositories and critical business systems. Any barrier to sensitive content however must balance security with simplicity. Access to content should be challenging enough to prevent unauthorized access, but if authentication is too cumbersome or unwieldy, employee productivity suffers.

Accellion strikes the right balance between secure file sharing and simple file sharing with a variety of authentication and user management tools including:

  • Username and Password – baseline authentication method requiring a user to provide a username or e-mail address and unique key containing an alphanumeric code at each login. Accellion provides policy controls for password expiration, length, history, and special characters.
  • SAML 2.0 and Kerberos – single sign on capability lets a user log in to multiple cloud apps with a single username and password and allows IT administrators to manage one credential per user for all apps. Accellion supports Okta, Ping, ADFS, CA, Kerberos, and Microsoft Azure.
  • LDAP and Active Directory – connect to one or more directory services that allow users to sign into systems with their network credentials. Accellion provides policy controls for adding LDAP groups and forcing users’ files to be uploaded to a specific location.
  • Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) – multi-layered security system requiring multiple methods of authentication from different categories of credentials such as password, key fob and biometrics, to verify a user's identity. Accellion supports native MFA and integrates with the RADIUS protocol.
  • One-Time Passcode – real-time, challenge-based and session-specific user validation leverages contextual information to protect against identity theft. Accellion provides policy controls requiring one-time passcodes for specific content.

“Authenticating a user’s identity before providing access to sensitive information is critical for protecting customer data and intellectual property,” said Yaron Galant, chief product officer with Accellion. “By supporting multiple authentication methods and protocols to accommodate organizations’ evolving security postures, Accellion helps those organizations prevent data breaches and compliance violations.”

The Accellion platform allows organizations to leverage not only their existing password-based authentication solutions but also other key components in their current security infrastructure including HSM, DLP, ATP, MDM, and SIEM. Learn more: security infrastructure integration.
