Commercial chapter 11 bankruptcy filings increased 20 percent in March 2025, with filings climbing to 733 from the 611 filings registered in March 2024.

“The overall filing volume trend waned in February, primarily due to fewer filing days and a typical trend of filings after tax return season,” Epiq said.

“Total bankruptcy filings continue to grow double digit percentages each month,” said Michael Hunter, Vice President of Epiq AACER.

Commercial Chapter 11 Filings Increase 20 Percent in Calendar Year 2024

Individual chapter 7 filings in November 2024 were 22,886, a 14 percent increase over the 20,149 filings recorded in November 2023.

Total bankruptcy filings were 47,104 in October 2024, a 16 percent increase from the October 2023 total of 40,674, according to Epiq AACER.

"As we close out the third quarter in 2024, we continue to see a steady increase in both individual and commercial filings this year to date," Hunter said.

Overall commercial bankruptcy filings increased 8 percent in August 2024 to 2,562 from 2,358 in August 2023, according to data provided by Epiq AACER.

Commercial chapter 11 filings increased 40 percent in July 2024 to 510 from the 364 filings in July 2023, according to data provided by Epiq AACER.
