Nokia leads in producing MHP-ready set-top-boxes

Nokia announced today at the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) that it has produced over one million Multimedia Home Platform (MHP) ready set-top-boxes. MHP is a software interface agreed within the Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) Project which is rapidly becoming the open standard for digital applications and promotes the creation of an open horizontal market.

MHP is expected to facilitate a whole range of innovative interactive services. "We strongly support MHP and are convinced that this open standard will have a significant impact on the consumer electronics industry. It will generate important benefits for all parties involved from the content provider to the network operator and from the manufacturer to the consumer", says Dr. Helmut Stein, Chief Technical Officer, Nokia Multimedia Terminals. He adds: "We are delighted to demonstrate our commitment to MHP with the production of over one million MHP ready set-top boxes."

Nokia Multimedia Terminals is a leading global supplier for digital multimedia terminals and developed the set-top boxes in close cooperation with a leading German technology provider.
