Nokia launches new TETRA system for 800 MHz frequencies

Nokia today continued to strengthen its position in TETRA digital professional mobile radio, with the launch of a system which operates on a new 800 MHz frequency band.

The new TETRA 800 MHz system was unveiled at the PT/Expo Comm China 2000 exhibition in Beijing, China. The new 800 MHz system will be available for deliveries during the first half of next year.

"The launch of the Nokia TETRA 800 MHz system expands Nokia's strong TETRA portfolio and will provide new market opportunities for Nokia in countries such as China and Latin America, where the 800 MHz frequency is required," says Kari Suneli, Senior Vice President, Professional Mobile Radio, Nokia Networks." We are pleased to be able to bring the benefits of speed, reliability and availability of the TETRA system to an even wider range of customers."

TETRA networks offer secure, digital mobile communication for public safety and security organizations, network operators, transportation and utility companies.

As a proof of Nokia's leading capabilities of TETRA development, IP packet data for TETRA was introduced by Nokia for the first time to the world's professional users earlier this year. In addition, Nokia has introduced the world's first WAP services for digital professional mobile radio users.

Combining user requirements and Nokia's leading edge technology, the Nokia TETRA System offers a future proof solution for the 21st century. Nokia is offering a range of end-to-end solutions that incorporate the latest TETRA technology, various data applications and related systems integration and support services. Since the system's functions are implemented by software, future developments and enhancements to the system can be easily introduced without disturbing the network.
